Palov's guest house

We ordered a Szarvas Tastes - Gastronomic Experience Package

To be honest, we didn't know exactly what to expect from the Szarvas Tastes of Szarvas gastro experience package. We saw the pictures, read the description, but with these things there's always the question: will it really be that good?
In the end, we decided that since we were in Szarvas, it was worth trying this - to make the experience complete.

The arrival - when the mood arrives in the first minute

As soon as we entered the house, the first thing we noticed was a neatly assembled parcel on the table in a stylish basket. Not over the top, not “overpackaged”, but just the kind of thing that makes you feel that someone really thought about making it right.

There were homemade jams, dried fruit, craft beers (we went for the alcoholic vezio) - they really set the mood.

We didn't have the feeling that „well, we'll just check this out quickly”, but rather that after we unpacked, we would sit down and look at everything, taste everything.

The next morning - the morning basket arrives in Sarva

In the morning, I didn't have to go to the shop and think about what to have for breakfast. There was simply a basket (or rather, a crate) full of local delicacies - a real Sarov breakfast basket, with locally produced ingredients.

And here came the surprise: the quantity was far more than we had expected.

What is included in the Szarvasi Tastes of Szarvasi gastro experience package?

We were served fresh, fragrant sourdough loaf with a crispy crust, accompanied by sausage and ham, and several local cheeses (Szarvas mozzarella!). The basket also included „Auntie Edit's” eggplant cream and zakouska, seasonal fresh vegetables, 2 flavours of 100% juice and various pastries.

And everything was not what you would call “supermarket flavour”, but real, locally produced delicacies from the local producers in Szarvas.

The reality: it was not for 2-3 days

There were two of us. We're not big eaters, but we like to eat. Of course, one or two we went into town in the evening also try restaurants. We had to have lunch we cycled into the centre, or we ordered a pizza. We even had a barbecue in the garden once, luckily all the tools were there to the programme.

On the second day we went on a trip, and we also made a snack with the ingredients:)

We ate the Szarvas Tastes - Gastronomic Experience package for 3-4 days, and we still had some left over, and even took the rest home with us. But we didn't skimp at all: we ate a good breakfast, snacked a bit during the day, and sometimes we ate a few things on the terrace in the evening, while socialising.

If one of us had come alone for a whole week, he would have held out for sure.

The little moments that make it worth it

The best part was that we didn't have to organise anything. In the morning we just sat out on the terrace just steps from the water, made a coffee and had everything to hand - that's when you really feel it, why a waterfront holiday is so great. No need to „figure out what to buy, what to put in the fridge, no need to think about what to have for breakfast. That's the part that's hard to really convey, but that's what made it work.

There was no extra programme, no rush - just a relaxed, comfortable pace.

Is the Szarvasi Tastes of Szarvasi gastro experience package worth it? Who do we recommend?

For us it was absolutely worth it. It wasn't an “extra” to the holiday, it added to the experience.

Which made me like it a lot:

  • really local ingredients
  • not overthought, yet sophisticated
  • abundant (very)
  • no “tourist feel”

We recommend it especially for those who love quality food, appreciate local ingredients and don't want to deal with logistics during their holiday, but would rather enjoy their time here in peace.

Overall:

We would certainly ask again. Not just because it was delicious, but because it added to the whole experience: it made meals easier and we were eating really good quality food.

If we were in Szarvas again, we probably wouldn't even think about it.
